Treatment times vary on how advanced or detailed the required result is. Normally appointments take between 2-3 hours.
The level of discomfort is relatively minor but is person dependent. The first pass is placed without any numbing cream for the crispiest effect (anesthetic creams make skin feel rubbery and slippery under the blade). Before the second pass is placed, a numbing gel is applied making the procedure completely painless.
For normal to dry skin it will last 1-3 years. If you have oily skin then colour boosters may be required more frequently. All permanent makeup is suggested to have an occasional touch ups (between 18 months to 2 years) to colour boost the brows to maintain results.
Some clients like to wear brow makeup how they normally do on a daily basis to show the colour, shape, and what they are currently used to. The brow area up to your hairline will be cleaned and disinfected before the treatment starts, so wearing brow makeup is not required but also fine if the client chooses to wear it.
If you wish to have your eyebrows waxed and shaped before your treatment, this should be done at least a week prior. It’s not necessary to tidy your brows before your treatment so don’t feel like you have to! I will tidy your brows once we have designed them plus any of those hairs you feel should be removed, could be incorporated into your treatment.
If you have been prescribed Accutane (or other retinoids), you need to be off the medication for 6 months before you can have permanent make-up applied. Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, has been thought to interfere with wound healing as it increases skin sensitivity so it's very important you allow your skin that time to heal.
It’s important to note that permanent make-up isn’t really permanent. It’s just the term that the industry uses, and is more accurately semi-permanent make-up. It is considered permanent because the pigment will remain in the skin forever, but the longevity of the colour and its visibility will eventually fade. This can be over a period of one year to a few years. It all depends on your own skin and how it chooses to renew itself.
A variety of tools are used during the artistry process. Firstly I use the Phi Compass and a mapping thread to meassure and draw the shape of your brows. I make markings over your brow area and your forehead to ensure symmetry. I then use a range of tools such as mascara wand, a highlighter to mark over any hairs I wish to remove, tweezers, a brow shaper (a small razor to remove tiny hairs) and brow scissors should they need a trim. For Microblading we use a handheld tool with a row of micro needles , and for Combination & Ombré styles we use a traditional tattoo machine with a single micro needle. All needles are sterile and made from surgical steel.
Brow treatments tend to look darker in colour immediately after the initial appointment, this softens and lightens by 20-40% within 7-10 days. You may experience some swelling and redness but this will subside within a couple of hours. In the first week after the procedure a scab may form and it's important to let it fall off naturally. In week 2 of the healing process the brows enter what we call a ghosting phase where brows look the lightest (sometimes a client may think there is no/little pigment left)but the colour comes back out when the skin resurfaces in week 3-4.
Children are not allowed for health code purposes. Client will need to hold still with eyes closed for a long time, and will not be able to pay attention to the child. The artist is focused on the brows and can not attend to child's needs.
Permanent makeup is for 18 years of age and older. I do not perform permanent makeup on minors. I do not accept parental consent with minors. The bone structure of a minor's face could still be developing, for extra caution I do wait till clients are at least 18 years old.
